The race will take place in Gortroe on Thursday 30th April 2015 to raise funds for Clonpriest National School in the East Cork village. The first Clonpriest 5k Run & Walk in 2013 was a resounding success and was voted the BEST 5K in Cork’s running circles – a huge achievement for any race but we beat stiff competition to achieve this in our inaugural year.
Last year’s race was won by Seán McGrath of East Cork AC in just over 15 minutes (15:40) and first lady across the line was Aisling Moran of Leevale AC (19:07) More than 300 runners finished the 5K race, many achieving personal bests. That might have been down to the flat, fast course, the vast amount of category and spot prizes or maybe it was the great spread of fresh food and home baking waiting at the end of the race (the subject on everyone’s lips) which made people push that bit harder to reach the finish line.
This year we have an AAI race permit in association with Youghal Athletics Club and with Chip timing each competitor will receive an official time immediately after the event.
Gortroe village is in scenic East Cork, just off the N25 between Killeagh and Youghal, and we look forward to welcoming you to take part in our 5K (3 miles) walk at 6:30pm or run at 7:30pm. More than 400 people took part in the Clonpriest Walk & Run last year and we’re hoping to see an even bigger turn-out at this year’s event. All funds raised go to the local school.
Prize categories have increased this year too and will be awarded for Men’s and Ladies’ races: 1st to 6th places Overall – 1st, 2nd & 3rd Over 40 – 1st & 2nd Over 45 & 50 – 1st Place Over 55, 60, 65 & 70. Don’t forget there will be tons of spot prizes on the night for the less competitive!
Registration is simple. Walkers can register on the evening up to their event start time (6.30pm) but with chip timing for the race we would encourage runners to pre-register online on our event website clonpriest5k.com. On the evening of the race (Thursday April 30th) simply come to the school between 5 and 7:15pm to collect your race number and timing chip. If you can’t pre-register don’t worry registration can also be completed on the night. Changing and bag drop will also be available at the school.
The Gortroe 5k run is open to anyone over 18 but children can take part in the walk, please note no dogs or headphones allowed.
